Turning Towards The Sun

Turning Toward the Sun
I once thought them ugly,
these tall, awkward sunflowers,
out of place
in the hard edges of the city.
But walking in silence,
I began to see them differently
wild and abundant,
turning toward the sun,
offering rest to the bees,
swaying gently
instead of breaking.
They became a lesson:
that beauty is often waiting,
asking only
for a shift in how we see.
Now, in the fall breeze,
they fold into themselves,
still reminding me
to soften,
to pivot,
to look again.
To hold onto the goodness
of lighter days
even as the air grows cool,
to carry warmth forward
as the seasons turn.
If only we could all see
beyond our first judgement,
perhaps the world itself
would open
into unexpected beauty.
